Cotton pod kapok pod for rodents and birds hamster cotton hamster wool
Kapok pods are very decorative, have a length of 10-30 cm and are guaranteed chemically untreated. They are also often called plant down pod. The fibers of the kapok pod are quite similar to those of cotton. In addition to the fibers, the pods also contain kapok seeds, which contain about 25 percent oil. The seeds are very well tolerated by birds and rodents and can be eaten without hesitation.
Since most kapok trees grow wild, i.e. are not cultivated in plantations or monocultures, neither fertilizers nor other chemical sprays are required to achieve abundant growth. Within just one year, a single kapok tree can yield about 20 kg of kapok fiber. Since kapok fibers are very good insulators, the kapok trees are not cut down, but harvested by the locals, thus sustainably protecting the forest and the fragile ecosystem.
Especially rodents, such as hamsters, degu, chinchilla, rat or mouse, like to build a nest of soft wool. The kapok wool is ideal for this purpose.
Beware of ordinary hamster absorbent cotton:
Ordinary hamster cotton or hamster wool usually consists of long fibers and is also not fully digestible. Therefore, they can clump together in the stomach, eventually leading to intestinal obstruction. In addition, ordinary hamster cotton can even clog a hamster's cheek pouches. In addition, it always happens that the long fibers strangle limbs, such as toes or even the entire little leg of the animal. Even such hamster cotton, which is offered with the label "fully digestible" or "natural", is usually not recommended and has already failed in countless tests on the Internet in turn. Often hamster cotton or hamster wool is also even perfumed or dyed, which is also not healthy for the animal.
How to do it better:
With kapok wool, this danger does not exist. The fine, short, soft fibers of kapok wool from the kapok pods we offer are on average only about 19 mm long and natural, as well as guaranteed untreated. This is a 100 percent untreated natural product, which is only dried after harvesting. Kapok fibers can be safely swallowed by animals without causing any harm. The fibers are far too short to cut off limbs or clump together in the stomach or intestines. In short, natural kapok wool is the best thing you can offer your rodent.
It's best to place the kapok pod directly into the cage in its entirety. You may need to open the pod a bit to make it easier for your pet to get to the valuable fibers.
Please note that the capo pod is a natural product. Therefore, both the length and diameter as well as the weight may vary. However, if you order several pods, we try to always provide a balanced ratio so that you do not receive only small pods.
